Remember when we first told you about Red Bull Straight Rhythm? The event ran for the first time last weekend, and it sounds like it was a success.
Essentially, Red Bull Straight Rhythm is a supercross course without any turns – or, you could call it a dirt drag strip with a lot of jumps (80 jumps, in fact, in the half-mile track). The organizers invited 32 competitors to go head-to-head in an elimination competition, in a best-of-three format.
James Stewart prevailed in the open class, and Marvin Musquin won the 250 cc class.
“Consistency was the key,” said Musquin. “I felt like I was doing good each run, but it was pretty stressful – you don’t want to make any mistakes because you know the other guy is right next to you. It’s close racing and I think the fans really loved it, and the riders loved it and I can’t wait for next year.”
One of the most exciting races was Stewart’s race against his younger brother Malcolm, who eventually ended up in third overall (Justin Brayton was second) in the open class. The second video talks to Malcolm about his impressions of the event.
Travis Pastrana was another crowd favourite, pulling off a backflip after winning one of his races on his custom 500 cc two-smoker. He was knocked out in the first round of elimination, despite his fearsome motorcycle. You can watch his run below, thanks to his helmet cam.
