BMW has unveiled a new sport tourer powered by their liquid-cooled boxer engine.
In the past, BMW powered a large segment of their lineup with their standard air-cooled flat twin. Now they’re moving towards doing the same thing with their liquid-cooled flat twin.
Like the R1200 R naked bike they also unveiled this morning, BMW’s R 1200 RS has a tubular steel frame and makes 125 hp at 7,750 rpm and 92 ft-lb of torque at 6,500 rpm. Supposedly, it makes more torque at low revs when compared to the GS, GS Adventure and RT, which use the same motor. Re-designed intake and exhaust systems likely contribute to that change.
Also like the R1200 R, the R1200 RS has USD front forks and a Paralever rear, and uses the motor as a stressed chassis member.
Automatic Stability Control is standard, and there are two standard electronic riding modes (Rain and Road). Optional Dynamic and User modes are available, and buyers can also add Dynamic Traction Control and Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment. Gear Shift Assistant Pro is also available as an option, as well as an electronic key fob.
ABS is standard, matched with twin discs and radial four-piston calipers up front. There’s a single disc in rear.
BMW Motorrad Canada hasn’t made any announcement about Canadian availability or pricing for this machine yet.
