MV Agusta previews new release

What’s MV Agusta working on now?

Details are scarce, but ahead of the show season, the Italian manufacturer has issued a teaser pic showing a spoked rear wheel. Nothing in their current lineup features spoked wheels, and they’re not a common design element anymore; seeing the wheel indicates three possibilities.

1). MV Agusta could be working on an adventure tourer When they announced the Turismo Veloce last year, there was quite a bit of buzz that it was going to be an adventure bike. When it was finally unveiled, it was obvious the machine was street-oriented; really, it was more of a sport tourer, following in the tradition of asphalt-loving bikes like the Multistrada and V-Strom 1000. It’s possible, though, that MV Agusta is working on a version that’s better off-road.

2). MV Agusta could be working on a scrambler Scramblers are hot right now; they’ve become a common theme on custom bike blogs, and Ducati will unveil their new Scrambler on this fall’s show circuit (with cast wheels and a low-slung exhaust … sigh … ). Could MV Agusta be attempting to cash in on this fad? It wouldn’t be surprising.

3). MV Agusta could be working on a cafe racer BMW’s R Nine T cafe racer was one of 2014’s most successful motorcycles, and Royal Enfield’s Continental GT has also sold very well, by reports. Retro-styled cafe bikes are still popular in the custom world, and this is the sort of machine MV Agusta is best-known for – fast and aggressive.

Of course, other bike styles sometimes incorporate spoked wheels – brats, or choppers, for instance, but those seem unlikely for MV Agusta.

Perhaps the best hint of the bike’s form is not the wheel itself, but the exhaust. There’s a round-tipped exhaust pipe visible, roughly in line with the rear axle. MV Agusta’s 675 and 800 models both have an exhaust like this, so expect the bike to feature one of those motors. Also, those bikes’ exhaust are more low-slung than you’d want for an off-road bike. That doesn’t mean the machine isn’t a scrambler or adventure bike, but it makes it seem less likely.
