Aprilia’s Caponord has always leaned heavily towards the street-friendly side of adventure riding, but the company has announced they are now planning to release a version that’s geared to handle the dirt better.
The new Caponord Rally’s biggest upgrade is a set of spoked wheels; the standard Caponord has 17-inch wheels front and rear, but the Rally has a 19-inch front wheel – a huge upgrade for off-roading. Along with new wheels, the Rally has aluminum luggage and extra LED lighting. Aprilia also bolted on crash bars and engine guards to protect the bike in the inevitable tipover.
The Rally’s windshield is bigger than the standard Caponord, which might actually work against it off-road. Aprilias are well-known for their electronic wizardry, and the Rally will be no exception, with semi-active suspension (adjusting to terrain conditions on the fly), ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, cruise control and three engine maps. Thankfully, ABS is switchable – a must for off-road riding.
The Rally is supposed to be unveiled on Sept. 30, with availability in Europe in early winter. There’s no word on when, or if, this bike will make it to Canada.
