The 1290 cometh: KTM confirms existence of Super Adventure

The rumours, the spy shots – they’re true. Team Orange is once again raising the stakes in the adventure bike arms race, and will be building the 1290 Super Adventure.

KTM confirmed they’re making the monstrous machine earlier this week; they’re telling us the full reveal will come at Germany’s Intermot show. For now, here’s what we know:

The 1290 is a further refinement of the 1190 Adventure, as expected, with bigger engine capacity and an “incredibly large fuel tank.” It’ll have KTM’s Motorcycle Stability Control system, including the ABS and traction control KTM developed in conjunction with Bosch. But wait, there’s more! KTM also claims the bike will  have “absolutely unique electronically supported riding assistance equipment.” At this point, we’re left without any idea what that could mean, since they’ve already introduced cornering ABS. We could hope for something like a wheelie button, but manufacturers seem to shy away from that sort of thing.

In any case, the Intermot show should give us the rest of the details. The bike will be launched there on Sept. 30.
