Earlier this year, Colin Edwards announced this would be his last season in MotoGP, but that he’d finish the year. This weekend, he announced he would be done racing after the Indianapolis GP – sort of.
Edwards is going to stick with NGM Forward Racing to help develop their race bike, and he’ll likely still do some wild card entries this year. However, after a half season of struggling with the bike’s chassis, he’s retiring from regular action.
While Edwards was never a MotoGP champ, he won the World Superbike title in 2000 and 2002, and took the 1992 AMA title as well. The 40-year old Texan was known for his straight talk and a few spectacular saves, as you can see in the tribute video below, put together by Yamaha. Plus, he didn’t take himself too seriously, as the clips from the Yamaha promo videos featuring his alleged time-travel antics prove.
