Jorge Lorenzo will be riding for Yamaha’s factory MotoGP team for another two years.
The 2010 and 2012 world champion (last year, he finished second overall) was expected to stick with Yamaha; with his difficulties this season, there wasn’t much buzz about any other team being interested in his services. For a while, there were rumours that Ducati was considering him, but Andrea Iannone has the seat that Cal Crutchlow just vacated, and that situation has likely created enough drama for them for one summer anyway.
Yamaha team boss Lin Jarvis voiced his support for Lorenzo, despite his struggles so far in 2014: “The 2014 season has been a tough one for Jorge so far but I am hoping that the confirmation of this new agreement will give him the peace of mind to be able to focus 100% of his energy on the remaining races.”
As for Lorenzo, he seemed happy to be able to focus on racing at this point.
“It has always been my wish to continue my career with Yamaha; I strongly believe we can fight for a third title together. This season has been very challenging after a difficult start, however we will continue to take it race by race, giving 100 per cent until Valencia.”
