The sales records continue: BMW sets new record in 2014’s first six months

Production is up! Sales are up! Revenue is up! BMW is on a roll in the first six months of 2014, and if you’re a fan of the blue and white roundel, everything’s coming up Milhouse.

Thanks to a busy Q2, the German manufacturer pushed production all the way to 75,000 units in the first six months of 2014; that’s up over nine per cent from last year’s numbers. They converted all those units into a 9.3 per cent increase in sales from last year’s first six months. Then, all those sales meant they hauled in over a billion Euros in revenue, up 9.8 per cent.  Achtung! Wir machen Geld!

Of course, the GS lineup is likely responsible for much of that sales success – a wealthy white-collar worker wouldn’t be caught dead riding to Starbucks on anything else! But BMW’s new R nine T also has been a smashing sales success, which goes to show air cooling ain’t dead yet. It goes to show that if you build the right motorcycle at the right time, they will come. It’s not just hipsters looking for an easy bike to customize who are buying the R nine T – its appeal seems to be far broader than that, and the sales sheet reflects that.
