Honda carries MotoGP momentum to Germany

Everyone knew Marc Marquez was good, but at the season’s start, nobody figured we’d be wondering if he would go nine-for-nine. But this weekend at Sachsenring, he could do just that.

The Repsol Honda team is looking like the sure favourite this weekend at the German track. Consider: Marc Marquez has won his last four races there (2013 MotoGP, 2011-2012 Moto2, 2010 125 cc). Then, teammate Dani Pedrosa has also won six times at Sachsenring, and garnered another podium finish there (an injury kept him out of the race last year).

Marquez has only been truly challenged by Jorge Lorenzo this year, and he says Yamaha’s #99 could be a stiff challenge this weekend (Lorenzo also missed last year’s German GP). But as he puts it, “It seems the Honda is well suited to this circuit so we will look to make the most of this advantage.”

Pedrosa is also looking forward to his return. After all, this may be one track where he can mount a strong challenge to his teammate.

““I always enjoy racing at Sachsenring and finding the right set up is critical – especially as you spend a lot of time on the left, but the fastest corner is to the right, so tire performance will be key,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting there to make up for missing last year.”
