The biennal GS Trophy competition makes its first trip to the northern hemisphere in its history, with a Canadian date for 2014.

The GS Trophy has run every two years since starting in 2008, with riders from five countries entered, but it’s always been in an exotic locale in South America or Africa. BMW hasn’t announced a specific location, but they’re telling us it will run between British Columbia and Alberta next year, in early September.

Riders from Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Russia, Austria/Switzerland, central Eastern Europe, USA, Mexico, Latin America, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Japan and Korea will compete at the nine-day event, along with the Canadian team,

For the 2014 event, riders will be competing aboard the water-cooled R1200 GS.

“For the three previous events, we’ve used the outstanding F 800 GS which has served us extremely well,” GS Trophy organizer Michael Trammer said, “but we feel it’s now time to demonstrate the ability and agility of our big sports boxer as the ultimate ‘go anywhere’ motorcycle.”
