As seems to be the norm in our digital world new bikes are spied, leaked and teased and then finally released. Today, KTM have done their penultimate tease with more details, specs and pictures of  the 2014 KTM Super Duke R (full details will be out at the end of October/early November).

The new 1290 is actually 1,301 cc thanks to a V-twin with an over-square 108mm bore and 71 mm stroke. Max claimed power is 180 hp with 106 ft.lbs of torque (with 75% of that available at 2,500 rpm). With a dry weight of 189 Kg, KTM reckon that the SD can go from zero to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 7.2 seconds.

Engine management offers up three power modes; rain (reduced power and higher traction control), street (more power) and sport (full on power and controlled drift), but is joined by ABS control which offers up a ‘Supermoto’ option that disables the rear ABS for huge, lurid slides and traction control to avoid a nasty highside as you slide the back end into a corner in SM mode.

Other specs include Brembo brakes, 48 mm WP USD forks and shock, slipper clutch, single sided swing arm, 835 mm seat height and an 18 litre fuel tank. Oh and KTM claim that it’ll be good on fuel economy too, but no consumption figures have been given to date. Not that the type of rider who would buy this would really care.

Though not confirmed, the Super Duke R should be available in Canada in the spring of 2014 (it will be released in Europe first), though no pricing yet. More info can be found at the Super Duke R micro site. Full picture gallery below.
