The Maxime Mercier Foundation has announced they will be giving away 200 Dion Devices at the Sept. 20-22 weekend at Shannonville.
The Maxime Mercier Foundation came into existance after Max Mercier died in 2005 after a crash at Shannonville, caused by accidental brake lever contact with another rider. The Dion Device is a brake lever guard designed to prevent these crashes. Pros use it around the world, and it’s official spec equipment in the AMA.
Because the Dion Devices came about as a result of the Shannonville tragedy (inventor Stephane Dion is a close friend of the Mercier family), the devices given away at next month will have Mercier’s #11 on them, and will be branded Max Guard instead of Dion Device. They’ll also come with a portrait of Max Mercier.
For more details on the Dion Device, visit their website.
Do you need to be registered to race that weekend to get one or will trackday riders/aspiring racers/racers from other organizations that show up to spectate get them too?

Anyway, these are a long-overdue good idea. Those of us who participate in a certain other regional series have already had to have something of this sort for the last year. There are a few other variations … I have a Woodcraft one that attaches outboard of the handgrip as opposed to this one that attaches inboard. This one is a much more sophisticated design.
This is a fantastic idea, anyone who has any ties to moto racing should share this.
