Colin Edwards is best-known for his performance on the track, but he’s looking to expand his horizons. He’s announced plans to ride this year’s Baja 1000 off-road race.
The 46th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 runs Nov. 14-17 this year, and Edwards will be running the race on a Yamaha WR450. It sounds as if he’s running as part of a six-man team that fills its lineup with other members of Edwards’s Texas Tornado Boot Camp training facility.
Supposedly, this race is something Edwards has wanted to do for a long time, and he’s finally making that dream a reality. It’ll be interesting to see how he does; the 1000 has gotten much more exciting in recent years, with some stars crossing over from the Dakar rally. All the coverage from Dust to Glory certainly helped; as well, the other manufacturers are pressing usually-dominant Honda harder and harder these days.
Very cool. I hope he enjoys the race! 🙂 I loves me some Colin; the Boot Camp is one of those items on my bucket list.
I couldn’t help but wonder if he’s also hoping to brush up on his off-road skills in case he gets a chance to pass someone through the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca next year …
🙂
He’s pretty good in the dirt. The Boot Camp has an 1/8th mile dirt oval and a couple of TT tracks that he uses for instruction. I’ve seen him ALL crossed up on his TTR230, running semi-slick on the back end. Looks pretty squirrely on a clay track! The guy’s a proper squid. 😀
“I’ve seen him” should read “I’ve seen video of him”.
