Aprilia’s 2014 Tuono V4 will have a more powerful motor, ABS, and a larger gas tank.
The 2013 model was no slouch, of course, but the new Tuono (officially the Tuono V4 R APRC ABS) now makes 167 hp from its 1000 cc V4 motor.
With great power comes greater need to slow down, of course, so the machine also sports Bosch 9MP dual-channel ABS.
Aprilia’s well-known for their advanced APRC electronics packages, and the Tuono gets its electric bits re-tuned for 2014 as well. Along with three riding modes, there’s wheelie control and eight levels of traction control.
The APRC system can even be calibrated for different tire circumferences – if you put new rubber on, the computer can be re-set to match their profile. Very trick!
The gearbox has been revamped (shorter ratios for the first three gears) and the power curve has been tweaked, so max power comes a little sooner, at 11,500 rpm. Max torque is 111.5 Nm at 9,500 rpm.
If all this awesomeness makes you want to stay in the saddle longer, you’ll be happy to hear the gas tank has now been upsized to 18.5 litres.
As for availability and pricing … we’ll have to wait and see. We don’t have an arrival date or MSRP for Canada yet.
One of these rocked right past my built-up 600 at Mosport last week on the straight. Speedometer read 270 and it was still pulling away. Who needs fairings?
This doesn’t look all that bad, although the fairing/headlight treatment somewhat reminds me of a Pokemon character. :-O
Carries about as much bodywork as some of the old EX500s, and those were considered fully-faired sportbikes. Not that I’m complaining, but the naked bikes today are getting pretty prudish.
