Terry Hershner continues to crusade for the cause of electric vehicles; now, he’s finished second in the BC2BC Canada to Mexico electric vehicle rally.
In the first week of July, Hershner rode south from British Columbia to Tijuana, Mexico, aboard his modified 2012 Zero S in 52 hours, completely on electricity. The winner drove a Tesla Model S to victory in 41 hours. Hershner finished ahead of seven other electric cars in the rally – pretty impressive, considering the limited battery capacity of a motorcycle.
Hershner’s modifications to his Zero include extra battery capacity, extra chargers and bodywork designed by Craig Vetter. You can find some more details on the race here.
Hershner, of course, ran coast-to-coast across the US, from Florida to California, in about five days last month, relying totally on en-route existing infrastructure (another electric motorcycle team also accomplished the feat, but they had a chase truck with generators). He’s spending his free time these days riding around the country on his battery bike, promoting electric vehicles.
