Toronto issuing tickets for two wheeled parking

Did you just get one of these? If so, what are you going to do about it?

GTA motorized two-wheel users beware, according to City News the authorities have decided to “crack down” on any moped, scooter or motorcycle that decided to do what millions of other city users around the world do, park on the side of the sidewalk.

Yep, how dare you not consume a  whole parking spot on the street (motorized two-wheelers are exempt from paying parking fees at meters and pay−and−display machines) and instead opt to use those unused spaces on the sidewalk edges.

Bad person, $60 please.

The swoop to get these criminals started Monday as part of the Canada Road Safety and Revenue Generation week (and BTW, sure, if a bike’s blocking pedestrian access, then  issue a ticket).

This likely became an issue after the city allowed an exemption to allow mopeds to park at bike racks and poles, unless they obstruct pedestrian traffic. This may have given other two wheelers the idea that it was okay for them too. After not enforcing the respective bylaw for it some time, police figured the time was right to pull in their haul, err, give a warning, err, do their job?

Sad.

  1. So stupid… in the end motorcycles, and now scooters, are gobbling up *way* more street parking and the city will lose lots of metered parking revenue.

  2. Fight all parking tickets – it takes over a year to get a court date, and 9 times out of 10 the ticket writer doesn’t show up. I’m thinking they make wayyy more $$$ writing them than going to court over them, haven’t paid one in several years.

    • Yup. Gotten two in the last several years. Pled Not Guilty but they never went to court.
Hoping the same for the latest.
