The Highway of Heroes ride and the city of Oshawa have settled their conflict, says the Oshawa Express.

Back in 2011, Lou DeVuono organized the Heroes Highway Ride and Rally in support of Canadian troops and veterans, routing it through Oshawa. He met with city staff, and thought everything was taken care of. And it was – city workers closed routes and made sure everyone got through Oshawa smoothly. Then afterwards, DeVuono got a bill from the city for $5,600.

This week, DeVuono met with city council to discuss the issue, after dealings with municipal bean counters got him nowhere, and the city started to lawyer up against him. The Express says DeVuono told council his rally hadn’t received a bill from Whitby, Toronto or Clarington – only Oshawa.

Thankfully for DeVuono and his many supporters, Oshawa’s town council ended up canceling the bill at this week’s meeting after talking it over with them, and the ride is planned to visit the town again in 2016.

    • Miller is probably sitting at home, seething in frustration over that missed opportunity – if only he’d been in power.
