Polaris buys Klim

Polaris’s buying spree continues; now, they’ve bought technical riding gear company Klim.

Most motorcyclists know Klim for their well-thought-out adventure riding gear, and this move doesn’t make sense at first – Polaris doesn’t make any adventure bikes. But broaden the picture, and remember Klim’s gear works for quad riding and they also make snowmobile gear; since Polaris makes a lot of ATVs and snowmobiles, the sale seems more logical.

But maybe there’s even more to it than that. Polaris has proven very canny so far in the motorcycle market; they’ve done well with Victory at a time when everyone said cruiser sales would flatline. They’ve managed to acquire the Indian brand name as well, and have hinted the company will return to its broad-based roots, making more than just bloated barges with oversized fenders and handlebar tassels.

Maybe this purchase is an indication they’re planning on building adventure bikes under one of their brand names?

  1. They just bought a clothing company is all.

What’s funny/sad about this is that Klim has been providing house branded clothing for other manufacturers (Yamaha?).

    I guess that’s going to change…
