The EICMA show runs in Milan this week, and the manufacturers have gathered to show off their hot new bikes. Here’s a look at a few bikes that have been teased at the last minute, before the show starts.
First off, MV Agusta has been busy lately, giving us hints of information about their 2013 machines before EICMA starts. They teased us with a sketch of the new Rivale 800, but now they’ve actually released pictures, ahead of the show.
They’ve also released some of the bike’s technical specifications. How does 123 hp and a 170-kg dry weight sound? Combine that with the eight-way adjustable traction control system, ride-by-wire throttle, lean angle sensor and adjustable engine maps available in MV Agusta’s MVICS electronics system, and you’ve got a challenger to the other European hypermotards on the market.
Naturally, we don’t have Canadian pricing or availability for the Rivale yet.
MV Agusta also released details of their 2013 F4 supersport. Deciding their 200+ hp wasn’t enough to keep them atop the superbike heap, they upgraded the bike’s suspension and electronics package.
The F4 gets the same MVICS package the Rivale, F3 and Brutale 675 have. It also gets electronically adjustable Ohlins suspension front and rear, upgraded lighting (including LED running lights) and forged aluminum wheels. Brakes are improved with GP radial calipers and master cylinders from Brembo.
The motor also sees tweaks, with upgraded con rods and crankshaft.
We don’t have any official specs yet, just photos and this video (watch it if you want more detailed information).
Finally, KTM’s also been teasing a new bike for a while, and now they’ve given us a better glimpse of their SuperDuke. Here’s what we know: The bike has a new frame, ride-by-wire throttle and WP suspension.
Add in the traditional Duke styling, and a 1290 cc motor (it sounds like they’re using a bored-out version of the RC8 superbike’s V-twin), and you’ve got a machine that will likely have insurance companies wringing their hands and calling for governmental intervention.
In any case, we’ll know more about the bike when it’s officially unveiled tomorrow.
Honda’s set to pull the final wraps off their CBR500 at EICMA, but here are a few more details on their new machine.
The bike puts out 54 hp at the wheel, with a 500 cc DOHC liquid-cooled parallel twin motor (four valves per cylinder) and EFI. There’s a six-speed transmission and chain drive.
The new half-litre sportbike has a 41 mm fork up front with 4.8 inches of travel and Pro-link shock in back with 4.1 inches of travel and nine levels of preload adjustability.
Braking comes from a single 320 mm wave disc up front with twin-piston calipers, and a 240 mm wave disc in back with single-piston caliper. Tires are 120/70-17 in front, and 160/60-17 in back.
The CBR500R will have a 785-mm seat height, and 1410 mm wheelbase. Wet weight is a claimed 194 kg, and the tank has a 15.5 litre capacity. Colours will be black, white/blue/red, and red. US pricing starts at $5,999 with ABS, $500 less without. We don’t know Canadian pricing yet.
