Another Canadian signs up for Dakar

Hatton's had some bad luck getting to Dakar before; let's hope everything runs as smoothly as possible this year.

We already told you Patrick Breaule is planning to race a motorcycle in the 2013 edition of the Dakar rally. Now, he’s got some competition from Canada.

Don Hatton of Team Rally Raid Canada has signed up for this winter’s Dakar. He’s no newcomer to this scene – Hatton’s raced Dakar before. This is his fifth try at the desert duel.

Hatton says he’s in the best shape of his life, and he’d better be; this winter’s race is supposed to be brutally hard, right from the get-go. He’s racing for Delta Kunstoffe Husqvarna UK, along with teammate Simon Pavey. Pavey’s a well-known face at Dakar; he trained and raced with Charley Boorman in his Race to Dakar TV special, and he also trained Boorman and Ewan McGregor for their Long Way Down TV series. He’s also very well-known as an instructor in the adventure riding community.

Hatton will be riding a Husqvarna TE449 this year; remember, Dakar has a 450 cc limit for motorcycles.
