Electric hack almost beats sidecar top speed record

An electric sidecar rig managed to break 216 mph (347 kph) at Bonneville earlier this month, making it the fourth fastest electric motorcycle and fastest electric sidecar of all time, and almost breaking the world’s sidecar speed record.

GizMag is reporting Eva HÃ¥kansson managed a 216.504 mph (348.429 kph) top speed on a run last week (although her official time was averaged over two runs, giving her a 191.488 mph/308.170 kph official record). What’s more impressive is that her machine was home-built.

Eva Håkansson and husband Bill Dube put the 18-foot KillaJoule sidecar rig together themselves. The machine features a 250 hp AC motor built by EVO Electric Ltd. Battery power comes from a battery pack constructed from 1210 cordless tool cells from A123 Systems; the pack puts out 375 volts/1800 amps and weighs 214 lbs.
