U.S.-based Cleveland CycleWerks has had plenty of magazine coverage in the last couple of years for their 250 cc machines, but it appears they have bigger plans for the future.
To be precise, it seems their plans are about 200 cc bigger.
So far, CCW has built their company’s machines around an overbored made-in-China motor based on Honda’s CG125. But North Americans usually want more than a 250 cc motor, and a photo on CCW’s web site seems to indicate they’re working on a 450 cc enduro.
It looks like the bike (they’re calling it the Hooligun) will also have USD forks, water cooling, and a gas tank protected by the frame, similar to modern off-road machines by the Japanese manufacturers. That fits with what CCW founder Scott Colosimo told us last month; he told us his company is going to be building machines that aren’t just for putting around town – he wants to make machines that are more performance-oriented, like his made-in-Japan competition.
How long will it take this to make it to market? CCW sources most of its components in China, so it’s anybody’s guess; a lot of promised bikes from that country, including CCW’s original 250 cc Hooligun trail bike, show up to the market late, or don’t make it at all. But Colosimo seems to be determined to build his company, so hopefully this machine will be in showrooms this year, as he suggested.
