Johnny Pag to build bike with U.S.-sourced motor

At the start of July, we told you Johnny Pag was working on a full-sized V-twin cruiser. Turns out, they’re sourcing that engine in the U.S. At the time, we speculated this bike could end up being the biggest Chinese motorcycle we’ve seen yet. And to a certain extent, that sounds like it might still be true, but not because of the engine displacement – because that engine is going to be built in the U.S.

The motor will be a 1650cc V-twin unit. Now, there aren’t a whole lot of manufacturers in the U.S. cranking out 1650cc motors. We do know S&S makes one, and that makes us wonder – will Johnny Pag follow the steps of the custom builders who made so much money before the chopper scene crashed, by building a custom bike around a kit S&S engine?

Or what other manufacturer will they be working with? In any case, it’s interesting to see the different tacks various manufacturers are taking with the Chinese motorcycle industry, whether it’s importing 100 per cent Chinese-built bikes, to shipping engines or engine parts to China for assembly, to buying Chinese knock-down kits for assembly in North America.

Johnny Pag’s U.S. distributor has also started a new contest you might be interested in. They’re giving away $100,000 in a push to sign more dealers. Read more about it on their Facebook page here.
