If you’re tired of aimlessly puttering around on your motorcycle with no destination in mind (although there’s nothing wrong with that!), there are plenty of two-wheeled events you can check out this weekend.
If you’re looking for some scooter-based fun, you should look into the step-through races at Quebec’s Supermoto X Fest Mecaglisse this weekend. You can read the weekend’s schedule of events in French here and an English translation of some details here, but one of the highlights should be the first race of the 2012 50cc scooter race series.
Supermoto X Fest runs 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m-5 p.m. Sunday at Circuit Mecaglisse in Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci. For more information call 819-424-3324. More details of the 50cc scooter series are available here – again, they’re in French.
On Saturday, the fourth edition of Ride de Filles will take place starting in Brossard and heading out to the Eastern Townships. This is an organized motorcycle ride to support and benefit Breast Cancer Research in Quebec – more details here. Women participants register are encouraged to raise a minimum of $100 towards the cause and participate in a group organized event for a great cause. In 2011, 139 riders participated and raised over $27k!
For the 5-year anniversary, taking place in 2013, Sylvie Brisebois, founder and president of the association is aiming to organize a 2-day ride in or near Quebec City. To make a donation, visit the Breast Cancer Foundation of Canada website and mention La Ride De Filles when making a donation so they can be recognized or make your check out to La Fondation du cancer du sein du Québec. Receipts are issued for any donation of $20 or more in donations.
It’s Friday the 13th again this weekend, so of course Port Dover, Ontario, is running their infamous downtown motorcycle festival again. They expect tens of thousands of visitors to descend on the town for the usual party (it’s the third Friday the 13th for 2012). Read more details at their website here.
The Edmonton Motorcycle Racing Association runs the third and fourth events of their 2012 race schedule this weekend; Round 3 happens Friday-Saturday, Round 4 is on Sunday. You can find more details about the weekend’s fun here. Gate admission is $10 – for a measly ten-spot you can watch racers flog their machines around the track after spending thousands on their bike and hours in training. Sounds like a good deal to us.
Speaking of good deals, for $20 you can get a weekend pass to the Atlantic Roadracing League‘s third round at the track in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia. Camping at the track is free. This is their third regional event for the season; the Atlantic CSBK round isn’t until the July 19-22 weekend.
The Revelstoke Rumble takes place Saturday in Revelstoke, B.C. – if you’ve got a street-legal dual sport, show up with your $139 per person, plus tax, for a two-day tour of the Kootenays. This event is supposed to be big-bike friendly, so if you’ve got a BMW R1200GS, be there or be square. Apparently, this event is put on by Glacier House. Email info@glacierhouse.com or call 1-877-837-9594 for more info.
Also in B.C. – it’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything about the controversial Sturgis North, but apparently the event is running again this year, and it starts Sunday. It runs all week, featuring the usual mix of camping, food, music, vendors, burn-outs, build-offs and the like. Some of the better-known bands attending include the Guess Who, Foghat, Kim Mitchell, Nick Gilder& Sweeney Todd, and Blue Oyster Cult. It all goes down in the town of Vernon and you can find more of the festival’s details here.
