Retail giant Canadian Tire could be selling street-legal scooters soon.
As part of an overhaul to their powersports program, the Canada-wide chain is looking at carrying a line of scooters, along with a new lineup of quads, dirt bikes, and UTVs.
Of course, Canadian Tire has been involved with powersports before; the biggest news here is that they may be considering selling street-legal two-wheelers.
As well, many customers were unhappy with their experiences with the Baja brand.
However, this time around, company executives say they’re going to choose brands that customers can research themselves before they buy, and they’re putting an emphasis on parts supply and servicing; customers should be able to find someone to work on their machine.
As well, Canadian Tire is also bringing in a new financing program for the vehicles, with terms as long as fives years.
I know the distributor CT is dealing with now on their new powersports lineup from my background in the industry, and they are a solid distributor. With a real focus on spare parts and service. And the new product line is not bad either. But time will tell if CT will stay committed to the program long enough to make any impact on the marketplace.

Yes the Tire might force other distributors to smartin up on pricing but then the money for support of the product will go away. If you buisness model is to make money on the sale that might work but how long will you sell if you can not give support?
I was talking with a colleague several months ago about “the tire”. His belief is that they’ve lost their way. When you walk in and see dump-bins full of bargain paper towels, cheap off brand potato chips and used DVD’s what the hell is the place about? Tools, and automotive drive the profits and margins and seasonal & house wares drive the sales. Why bother with a product you don’t know anything about nor can deliver any level of competent service. Much like Harley & Buell in the end I guess.

This might force the big 4 to put reasonable prices on their scooters. Vinos in Thailand are 1500 usd. The 150 Honda in Vietnam is 1800 usd.
Anyway with this sh=t weather, a scooter is a doorstop.
Anyone that is stupid enough to buy a scooter at candian tire will get what they deserve. No service; no parts , No one that gives a shit and junk product to boot! Support a real dealer!
You should always ask about service, parts and warranty before buying. Not all “real” dealers give you those either.

The first distributor of Kawasaki motorcycles in Canada was, you guessed it, Canadian Tire.
They have a history of starting up then dropping product.
Its all well and good until you break something and can’t get parts to fix it or have a warranty issue…
