BMW Montreal Rally

Moto Internationale is hosting the 2012 BMW GS Trophy qualifier event next weekend.

The BMW Montreal Rally/GS Challenge will be held on June 9 and 10, 2012 at Moto Internationale.

As in previous years the event will also act as the 2012 BMW GS Trophy qualifier event for Team Canada, though riders who wish to participate in the qualifications for the actual GS Trophy 2012 in South America will need to specify this during registration.

The event will be open to all types of riders, whether seasoned or inexperienced, and all types of bikes. There’s an on-road and off-road route, so road bikes and dual sports can both take the challenge. There will be both technical and physical challenges; participants will be able to decide which ones they want to attempt, according to rider skill.

Registration ($100) is on the Friday afternoon at Moto Internationale with a riders’ meeting at 8:30 pm. The rally part takes place the next at 7:15 am at Moto Internationale, who will also provide a rally kit at the starting line. The day is wrapped up with a BBQ that is open to all.

For those wishing to try their luck at the GS Trophy, then those finals take place in following day in Ormstown, where riders will be riding an F800GS supplied by BMW Motorrad Canada. There will also be three very experienced rallye riders present:

Here are the event's instructors.

Tomm Wolf : Head motorcycle instructor in Germany and organizer of the GS Trophy for 2010 and 2012. Tomm will also be the head judge during the finals.

Simon Pavey : Coached Ewen McGregor and Charlie Boorman during the TV productions The Long Way Round and The Long Way Down. Simon has also finished the Paris-Dakar 6 times.

Joe Stather : BMW coach and Tomm Wolf’s invaluable right-hand man.

Lunch will be served before the day’s events, with the event wrapping up with the announcement of the winner at 3:30 pm. For additional information and time of registration, please refer to the event’s official website: www.rallyebmwmontreal.ca
