This weekend: More Ride for Dad, Quinte TT, other events

There are more Ride for Dad events this weekend, across the country, along with some other stuff you should check out, if you have the time.

The Ride for Dad fundraiser/awareness campaign that battles prostate cancer will run in Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, Kitchener, Ottawa and Dartmouth on Saturday. You can find out more details about the campaign here.

If you’re a vintage racing fan, head to Shannonville this weekend and take in the Quinte TT on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There will be plenty to do and see for fans of bikes from the 1950s to the 1990s, including the first race of the Vintage Road Racing Association’s season. There will be 120 riders and their crews attending. There will also be  a race school for new riders on Friday, and non-racers can still take to the track on the “Try the Track” session on the lunch breaks Saturday and Sunday. That will set you back $20 for 20 minutes, and you have to register at the souvenir booth by 11 a.m. You can also take a ride in a racing sidecar for $20.

There’s also going to be a vintage bike concours and swap meet event this weekend, and of course, you can camp at the event. Programs and parking are free, admission is $25 per person for the weekend, or $5 Friday, $10 Saturday, and $15 Sunday. Kids under 12 are free as long as they accompany an adult.

The Pink Motor Sisters 100 Sisters Ride will take place in the Edmonton area on Saturday. Organizers are hoping to have 100 women at this event that promotes rider awareness while encouraging women to ride. The ride starts at the Hogs Den Pub, heads out to Two Hills for lunch and prizes, then back to the Hogs Den via Chipman.

The ride takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and women from all over the province will be attending. For more information, check out their Facebook page here.

If you live in the Sarnia region, you can check out the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group’s Old Bikes Day in Bayfield from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m; it’s the third time this annual show will run.

This isn’t a swap meet, there’s no official judging, and no vendors; you can just show up at the park in Clan Gregor Town Square and show off your vintage scooter or motorcycle. There’s no registration fee either.

Vintage related club and group displays are encouraged, and all makes and models of classic bikes are welcome; this year’s focus is on the Mods and Rockers period. For more information, check out the event on Facebook.

The National Memorial Ride takes place on Sunday, starting 1 p.m. at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa. The National Memorial Ride was founded to support veterans; you can find out more about their organization here; they’re trying to raise support for Canadian veterans’ homes, as well as for wounded vets. The ride is free, but donations will be welcome – there’s more about that here.
