The Isle of Man’s government wants to make changes to the Manx GP, but fans aren’t happy with the idea.
Visordown is reporting the island’s government lost almost $600,000 Canadian running the GP last year, prompting them to look into ways to make the race more profitable. Their solution? Turn the two-week racing event into a 10-day motorcycle festival with an emphasis on vintage biking; they also want to bring in more professional racers, which would obviously change the race’s classic amateur feel.
The changes are supposed to take place in 2013.
Naturally, racing fans are upset with the proposal – they don’t want to see one of motorcycling’s oldest, most historic races turned into Sturgis. There’s been protests on the Isle of Man, and they’re also voicing themselves on the ultimate forum of public interaction, Facebook.
Still, the politicians seem to be unmoved so far, saying the public deserves a return on its investment, and right now, they aren’t getting it.
Uh, are the Isle of Man TT and the Manx GP not different events run on different dates?
 Yes, the Manx GP runs on the same course as the Isle of Man TT. It’s supposed to be for amateur riders.
