A year, to the day, after we told you about rumours of a small-capacity Triumph in the works, we’re hearing it again – and Harley-Davidson is supposedly working on a similar project.
Don’t get all excited, though – the Business Standard is reporting that Harley and Triumph are indeed exploring the option of building smaller machines, but only for the Indian market, for now.
Supposedly Triumph’s Indian managing director said the company is working on a six-year plan to bring smaller machines to that country, with a development time of three years for the new models. They’re already working on setting up a plant to build bikes in India.
Harley-Davidson already has a factory in India to supply bikes locally, and is supposedly thinking of bringing out a small-capacity machine tailored to the Indian market in the next few years as well.
You can bet that this news has to have iconic Indian motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield worried. They recently unveiled a new model, the Thunderbird 500, that looks like it’s taken a lot of styling straight from Harley-Davidson’s playbook.
