Dakar, Day Six: Called, due to rain

Hopefully all goes well for Stage Seven today.
Hopefully all goes well for Stage Seven today.

Yesterday’s sixth stage of the Dakar rally was canceled, due to rain.

Thursday’s stage was shortened considerably after weather made road conditions unsuitable, and race officials decided Friday that it wasn’t safe for racers in the Andes Cordillera in Chile, the race’s highest point.

Instead of a race, organizers put everybody into a convoy to travel through the Paso de San Francisco pass together – authorities had closed the pass to anyone else. As far as we know, everything is still a go for today’s loop.

Obviously, the standings remain unchanged from Thursday, and we have no race video footage to show you today. Tomorrow, Day Eight, is scheduled as a rest day.
