Friday Fudge

Welcome to Friday Fudge – a weekly round up of the more ‘unusual’ motorcycle related stories that are just too silly to post on their own, but raise a much bigger chortle when you slap them all together and take the piss.

The Big Time

Ever wonder what it’s like to jump a motorcycle over 300 feet, through the air? Well thanks to the video below, you can experience it for yourself – sort of.

The video was shot by snowmobile stunter Levi LaVallee as he jumped across San Diego Bay on New Year’s Eve, along with motorcycle stuntman Robbie Maddison. You can see Maddison in the video, flying through the air aboard his Yamaha YZ450F at the same time as LaVallee, as they both set new world records – a jump over 412 feet for LaVallee, and more than 378 feet for Maddison.

The Small Time

Duffey's an accomplished motorcycle stunter, but the whole riding-backwards thing just seems a bit weird. Photo: BobDuffey.com

From impressive long-distance jumps, we now turn our sights on another record, with a bit less flair. Not everyone is able to jump a bike over San Diego Bay, but there are other ways into the Guinness record book.

Motorcycle stuntman Bob Duffey has his own record-setting plan – he aims to set a new record for riding his motorcycle in a backwards posture. Apparently this has been a drag-strip trick of his for years, and he doesn’t seem to have many challengers to his dominance – we can’t figure out why.

Anyway, Duffey’s headed to Vegas on Jan. 13 and 14 to attempt this record as part of the Gene Romero 2012 West Coast Flat Track Series. If you’re in town then, we highly recommend you abandon Sin City’s other distractions and head down to the show. After all, wouldn’t you want to be able to tell your grandkids you saw motorcycle history in the making?

On second thought, you might be better off spending your cash on blackjack.

Hard Times

For some reason, Ghost Rider is giving his Hayabusa away. Maybe he's tired of the maintenance costs on a 500hp, turbocharged 'Busa?

Most motorcyclists know about Ghost Rider, the scofflaw Swede who’s starred in five DVDs full of gratuitous wheelies, death-defying speed, unconscionable police chases, and much, much more.

But this unknown outlaw isn’t a true criminal at heart; in fact, he appears to be more of a modern-day Robin Hood, with the announcement that he’s giving away his bike. That’s right, his infamous 500hp turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa is now up for grabs on his website, via a lottery. Check it out, fill out a form, but if you win, remember – just because you have the bike doesn’t mean you have the skills!

Kenyan HOG rally

Things are different in the developing world. Don’t take our word for it, though, watch the video below, shot on a highway in Kenya where pigs ride pillion but alas not ATGATT …
