Here’s a look at a few of the changes that will be implemented in MotoGP next season.
The biggest change this season will be in engine size, but with that added engine capacity (up to 1000cc, from 800cc) comes added weight. Minimum motorcycle weight in 2012 will be 157 kilos, or 345.4 lbs; it rises again 2013, to 160 kilos, or 352 lbs.
When riding in rain conditions, all riders in all classes must run a red taillight next season.
Riders who aren’t able to make the cut in qualifying laps will be able to qualify for the main event during warmup, if they can get a time that’s at least 107 per cent of the leader’s.
Riders will be able to use starting engines on the grid, and can leave tire warmers on until the one-minute board lights up. Generators still have to go at the three-minute mark.
