Honda is planning to move more motorcycle production to Thailand, the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper reports.

Like many other manufacturers, Honda already produces some bikes in Thailand, but until now, they’ve mainly been restricted to small-capacity machines. But according to the article, that’s about to change.

The Yomiuri Shimbun says Honda will soon be building new 400cc and 500cc models in Thailand, possibly as soon as next October. The paper claims Honda is planning to build a new factory outside Bangkok to handle the production.

This shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone. Many mid-sized motorcycles have been built in Thailand for years, including Triumphs, and Kawasaki’s classic adventure tourer, the KLR650. While some critics will probably decry the move, it comes as a simple financial decision, due to the rising yen.
