Triumph 1200 Adventure – more details

Will Triumph's new big bore become the dual sport motorcycle of choice for round-the-world riders?
Will Triumph's new big bore become the dual sport motorcycle of choice for round-the-world riders?

Could BMW’s R1200GS finally be seeing some serious competition?

First Yamaha brought out the Super Tenere, and now Triumph has introduced their Tiger Explorer – and it’s supposed to have a lot more power than the GS.

Triumph says their new big-bore dual sport, powered by a 1215cc triple, puts out 135 bhp and 89 lb-ft of torque – more than any of its competition. It’s also probably more than enough to go pull stumps in your back 40, if your tractor breaks down.

The new Triumph Tiger 1200 should be good at pulling stumps too.

Thanks to its shaft drive, the new Tiger should be able to go 10,000 miles between servicing, Triumph says, which is good news for round-the-world riders. The bike also has plenty of other features to keep riders happy for the long haul, including cruise control, an adjustable seat, windscreen and handlebars, switchable traction control, and switchable ABS.

If that’s not enough electronic gadgetry for you, the bike also comes with a best-in-class 950-watt generator, so you should be able to plug in just about anything you want to make your ride more comfortable.

The Tiger Explorer comes with a 17-inch rear wheel and 19-inch front wheel and adjustable 46mm front forks. It weighs 570 lbs with a full gas tank. MSRP is supposed to be around 11,000 pounds in the UK.

  1. Bang on Triumph, you’re on a roll !  Follow this up with an optional big tanked, spoked wheel variant, for the supposed  hard core adv types and it’s all wine and roses.
