Electric motorcycle manufacturer Brammo has just landed $28 million in funding from various sources, including Polaris.
Brammo are perhaps best known for their Engage and Encite motorcycles, which feature a rarely-seen gearbox mated to an electric motor. But like every other battery bike company, they still face an uphill battle against traditionalist motorcyclists, who want pistons and a gas tank as well.
It’s a tough market to start out in, and Brammo, like its competitors, hasn’t had an easy time getting their product to consumers. This money, coming in the form of Series B funding, should help the company get rolling faster, but it also brings with it a strategic partnership with Polaris.
It’s tough to imagine what the future holds for the deal between Polaris and Brammo. Maybe we’ll see Brammos in Polaris’s dealerships, alongside Victory and Indian motorcycles, but it seems more likely that Polaris will integrate Brammo’s electric drivetrain technology into its own machines – that’s what their news release says is the plan.
Who knows? We could see a battery-powered Indian or Victory before too much longer.
[…] Back in 2011, we told you Polaris was working with electric motorcycle builder Brammo. At the time, we assumed it meant an electric motorcycle was coming from Polaris, but that doesn’t exactly seem to be the case; instead, they’re building an electric bicycle. […]
 Interesting…
