Royal Enfield is building, and selling, a lot more bikes these days.

Last winter, Royal Enfield told everybody they were going to build a lot more more motorcycles; now, they say they’re selling them.

According to blogger Cyril Huze, the retro-styled Indian motorcycle manufacturer has been going great guns in 2011. They claim they’re well on track to meet their sales goal of 70,000 units worldwide – at mid-year, they’d already sold 42,000, putting their sales up 40 per cent. Huze also says that their U.S. sales were up 50 per cent.

Now, with third-quarter sales reports coming in, the company claims they’ve already surpassed 2010 sales numbers – an impressive feat in the current economic climate.

Why is Royal Enfield meeting with such apparent success? They’re certainly making some smart moves – they’ve retained their classic styling, but they’ve started to upgrade their machines with such modern features as fuel injection. Their expanded production is also key – before, the factory just couldn’t keep up with demand.
