So you think you can race?

There are television talent shows for everything under the sun. Now, there’s a new series focusing on motorcycle racing. It’s called Hot Laps.

The unscripted television show will give riders a chance to race at ten of North America’s fastest bike tracks, where during each episode they’ll compete for a ticket to the season finale race. Any rider who can beat the show’s riding team gets a ticket.

The season’s final showdown will take place at Laguna Seca, where the winner takes home a new motorcycle, and also gets the chance to become a cast member on the show. Current cast members include Canadian racers Andy and Steve Shaw, Matt Dicintio, and Derek Stewart, along with an unnamed Racer X, who we think is supposed to be something like Top Gear’s The Stig.

The show launches at the Toronto’s North American International Motorcycle SUPERSHOW in January. We’re not sure what channels will pick the show up, but it sounds like it may be available for streaming on the web as well.

Reality TV is a big fat waste of time as a general rule, but this sure sounds a lot more interesting than, say, Dancing with the Stars.

  1. Instead, how about a real life TV series following actual racers, in actual races, taking real risks with their own real money?
