The funeral for American racing legend Gary Nixon will take place tomorrow in Timonium, Maryland.
Nixon, an accomplished American racer who had a 22-year long professional career, died last week following surgery complications after suffering a heart attack. He was 70.
Nixon won 19 AMA National victories during his racing career, had 150 Grand National finishes, won back-to-back Grand National Championships in 1967 and 1968, and won the Daytona 200 in 1968. He rode factory bikes for Triumph, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki.
Nixon was also well-known for his long friendship with Brit racer Barry Sheene, who wore a Gary Nixon Enterprises T-shirt under his racing leathers.
He’ll be missed.
