BRP has been holding an international dealer meeting in Montreal all week and it’s pulled all the stops.
The Canadian manufacturer of Sea-Doos, Ski-Doos, Spyders and ATVs has had the run of downtown Montreal, beginning with a general session, held at the Palais des Congrés last Sunday.
The general session was a big production, with a live band, dancers, acrobats and fire breathers taking the stage between product presentations.
The festivities spilled into the streets, with downtown’s Crescent Street closed off beginning Tuesday with BRP products on display, and live bands like Sass Jordan, Michel Pagliaro and David Usher performing live. The shows will continue throughout next weekend.
CEO José Boisjoli described the company’s goal of becoming an industry leader in environmentally friendly powerplants, as well as introducing “paradigm shifting” products.
Paradigm shifting products are meant to challenge BRP designers to work outside their comfort zones on products that are unfamiliar to them, like the Spyder was when it was conceived. Other such items include the Spyder hybrid and a new electric side-by-side ATV.
The company is enjoying successful growth in an industry that has seen a decline in sales in the last couple of years. While the motorcycle industry has seen a five to 25 per cent drop in sales, BRP has recorded 37 per cent growth, attributed to the introduction of the Spyder, which saw a 20-per cent increase in sales in the U.S. in 2010 and has become the second-largest selling motorcycle over 800 cc in Quebec behind Harley-Davidson.

Why don’t they put that technology into a real motorcycle?
Three wheels does not make a motorcyle? I would suspect that, if you took your M license on a Spyder, that you might be in for a bit of a surprise if you tried a motorcycle. A regular G license should be enough.

The logic doesn’t seem sound allowing you to take your M license test on a Spyder.
You should be able to drive one with a regular G license.
