Bouncing back from a miserable 2010 TT season, John McGuinness claimed his 16th TT victory on his Honda TT Legends CBR. He took the Superbike race on June 4, the first event in the TT’s week of racing on the Isle of Man, thus strengthening his claim to be one of the best TT racers of all time.
Kiwi Bruce Anstey on his Padgett’s Honda was close to McGuinness until he ran into machine problems and retired shortly after the mid-race pit stops. When Anstey went out that left Cameron Donald and Gary Johnson to pick up the remaining podium spots.
The luckless Guy Martin, racing this year for the TAS Relentless Suzuki team, was dicing for second when he ran into ignition problems – apparently the battery failed – and he had to drop out of the race.
Behind the podium finishers, Keith Amor bounced back from a shoulder injury to claim fourth on the second Honda TT Legends bike, ahead of Michael Dunlop. Hondas took the top four spots, with Michael Dunlop on a Kawasaki this year.
Racing resumes Monday, June 6, with both Supersport (600 cc) and Superstock (1,000 cc) races on tap.
Last year’s five-race winner Ian Hutchinson is sitting this year out thanks to a slowly recovering serious leg injury sustained in a sprint race late last season.
