According to Global News, Bayview Ave. is the most dangerous street for motorcycling in Toronto.

In a study that examined police records of Toronto’s 45 fatal motorcycle accidents from May 1, 1995 to May 31, 2011, Global found the area where Bayview meets Rosedale Valley Road poses the greatest danger to the city’s bikers, with six fatalities since 1995. A stretch of South Kingsway near Lakeshore Blvd. is the city’s second most dangerous spot, with four motorcycle fatalities in the same time period.

The study did not examine 400-series highways, which are under provincial jurisdiction, nor did it consider non-fatal accidents.

Constable Hugh Smith of the Toronto Police Service says the reason for the accident clusters is likely that both areas are popular motorcycle routes due to lower traffic volume and pleasant scenery, which could cause motorcyclists to lower their guard.

Men were piloting the motorcycles in all 45 fatalities since 1995, and the motorcyclist was at fault in 29 of them, usually due to high speed.
