The Motorcycle & Moped Industry Council (MMIC), working with the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA), want the ECE 22.05 helmet standard to be implemented nationwide.
The MMIC is recommending that all provinces include the European standard among the CSA, DOT, NHTSA and Snell standards currently in place in most provinces.
Many consider ECE testing to be the one that best represents actual crash conditions, and it also requires mandatory batch testing of helmets, which regularly tests the helmets destined for public use.
Implementing the ECE standard would be relatively easy because it does not conflict with current standards. What it would mean for consumers is a much wider selection of approved helmets.
Currently, only Quebec recognizes the European standard.
The Schuberth C3 sold in North America is both DOT and ECE compliant.
I doubt that it is regulation which is levied at the rider/wearer. What it would mean is that any new helmet sold in Canada would be required to meet those standards.
Any older helmet, is exactly that — an older helmet with older standards.
Would you not be the most concerned about your head/brain? After all, you are not endangering anyone else, but yourself taking unnecessary risk.
Perhaps I should have been more clear. What if I wear an ECE approved helmet and crash?
What are the consequences of not wearing an approved helmet? Fine/improsonment? Void life/motorcycle insurance?
