According to articles in The Connexion and Visordown, France’s Ecology Minister, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet is putting a plan into place that would ban all motorcycles and scooters made before July 2004 from the centres of France’s biggest cities.
The ban is aimed at the higher polluting vehicles on the road and is aimed at reducing city-centre air pollution. It would also apply to older cars — but only those over 13 years old — along with trucks and buses built before October 2001, and would effectively take more than 10 million vehicles out of city centres.
Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, Nice, Grenoble, Clermont-Ferrand, Aix-en-Provence
and Saint-Denis have already signed up for the three-year test, which will set up “no beater” zones in the city centres, starting in July
2012. If successful the ban could be implemented across France.
If only they had “banned” old BMW’s and their riders 70 years ago! Could have shortened the war considerably! 🙂
