Mods 'n' Rockers return

We doubt the festival will get out of hand like the beach brawls supposedly did in the 1960s.

It won’t be as fun as Quadrophenia or a brawl at Brighton Beach, but the Mods n’ Rockers festival returns to Toronto this August.

The festival, which celebrates British scooter and motorcycle youth subculture, starts 7 p.m. August 19 at the Black Dice Cafe, and runs until 4 p.m. the next day, with a crosstown ride that ends at the Dominion on Queen.

Considering the venues, we imagine there’ll be gratuitous partying all weekend long, but hopefully no Mod-on-Rocker violence – leave your blackjack and brass knuckles at home.

Tickets to the festival are pretty affordable – only $25 each, or four for $80 in advance. Of course, that doesn’t include the cost of buying your Mod-issue army surplus fishtail parka and pudding bowl helmet, or, if you’re a rocker, a greasy pompadour and a black leather jacket covered in pins.
