The Manitoba Roadracing Association (MRA) have announced their schedule for the upcoming racing season at Gimli Motorsports Park, located in, well, Gimli, Manitoba.
In addition to the existing slate of race classes, there is a new Ultra Light Weight Superbike category planned for 2011. They have also made safety improvements to the track by removing Armco barriers in some areas and adding some new Airfence.
For those who want to do more than just spectate, trackdays will be run on each race weekend. There’s also a race school being conducted on May 28th.
Round 1 – May 28-29
Round 2 – June 25-26
Round 3 – July 23-24
Round 4 – August 20-21
Round 5 – September 10-11

“We searched for images of Gimli and this is what we found. It appears the track is named after the famous dwarf of Erebor.”
I believe if you dig deeper, you will find he received that honour for safely landing his plane there after it lost power, the landing strip at Rivendell being too far under the circumstances. I’m pretty sure you could Wiki that information.
