HondaJet takes to the sky

One of these or 1,306 CBR125Rs, take your pick.

Honda’s light business jet made its first flight on December 20th. Alright, motorcycle news are somewhat scarce during the holiday season, but in our defense Honda does have a wing in its motorcycle logo.

The 51-minute flight took place at Honda’s aircraft headquarters located at the Piedmont International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina.

A proof-of-concept aircraft reached a top speed of 777 km/h (483 mph) and attained a maximum altitude of 13,100 metres (43,000 ft).

The HondaJet will be produced in a 266,000 sq.ft. facility in Greensboro, which is scheduled to open in early 2011.

Delivery of the first Hondajet is scheduled for the third quarter of 2012. Place your order now, cost is only $4.5 million U.S., or about the cost of 1,306 CBR125Rs.

  1. On the plus side, if I had the dosh, it’s a Honda that I would spend the money on… Unlike most of the other offerings on the showroom floor…

  2. “They’ll also have to take stock of 25 DN-01’s with every jet purchase. Honda needs the warehouse space!!! ”

Nice one, Steve. And Gummi, I loved yours as well.

  3. Yes, I can hear Honda Canada saying to its dealers: “unless you sell cars, bikes, lawn & garden AND this jet, You cannot sell any Honda product.”

  4. The cabin space is largest in class because the engines are mounted to the wing structure rather than an encroaching structure in the rear. A significant piece of the wing structure – a highly stressed box section beneath the cabin is produced in Vancouver.
