I’m off to South Africa, a country that has so far eluded me as a travel
destination, to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

BMW Motorrad Canada graciously extended an invitation to ride with GS Trophy qualifiers Pat Horan, Brian Kiely and Dominique Lemaire, who all qualified for the Trophy during the Canadian rounds of the GS Challenge.

In Canada we only have to worry about Moose …

I’ll be covering the team’s progress while riding with them throughout the seven-day event on F800GS bikes.

We’ll be joining nine other teams from around the world, heading east out of Johannesburg on Sunday, Nov. 14, and riding through Swaziland and into Mozambique. Special tests will be held along the way to test riders’ skills, teamwork and camaraderie.

Frills will be kept to a minimum – a tent pitched in the desert the chosen lodging.

This adventure promises spectacular scenery, challenging riding and an experience that will no doubt last a lifetime.

I’ll try to post daily updates along with any links to officially produced video, though an Internet connection may not always be available.
