MV Agusta will debut a 675 cc triple sportbike as part of
its post Harley-Davidson relaunch effort, says MCN.
H-D announced its intention to sell the company after a short spurt of ownership, and is said to have spent more than £170 million (about Cdn
$260 million) in its
buying and subsequent casting off of MV Agusta.
The Castiglioni
brothers signed a deal to buy the company a few days ago, putting it back into Italian
hands for just three euros (or one euro, according to MCN)!
Now the Castiglionis are saying the F3, a 675 cc triple, and
the Brutale, a naked sportbike, will head lineup of MV Agustas for a relaunch.
Interestingly, this was not Harley’s first disastrous
investment in an Italian motorcycle company. Years ago they bought Aermacchi,
then sold it back and lost money — to the Castiglioni brothers no less.
Its cost more to buy a MV Agusta bike than buying its whole factory…
Buell and MV were supposed to be HD’s marketing attempt to attract a younger customer base. That really worked, didn’t it ?
