The musician and producer behind such
iconic albums as U2’s The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, and Bob
Dylan’s Time Out of Mind and Oh Mercy, was in intensive care this
week after crashing his BMW motorcycle in Los Angeles.
Daniel Lanois is said to be recovering,
though he sustained what he told a reporter were "a lot of broken
bones" in the collision on the weekend.
Lanois, who is 58 and was born in Hull,
Quebec, has cancelled a European tour because of the injuries, but is
conscious and was scheduled to be moved out of intensive care.
Lanois was inducted into Canada’s Walk
of Fame in 2005 and has worked with Emmylou Harris, Tom Waits, Brian
Eno, and Peter Gabriel, as well as minor stars like Martha and the
Muffins and Raffi.
His recovery is expected to take about
two months.
A bad crash to a great artist seems to be of little importance to the readership here.
Perhaps if we brought up the modified (probably loud)(pardon?) exhaust system on Daniel’s interesting Beemer, this article would generate greater concern.

I never knew anything about Daniel until he released his first album, Acadie – by that time he was already a legendary producer. Much respect for the man and his extremely influential work. I wish him a speedy and complete recovery.
