BMW seem to be having a Toyota moment with an extensive world wide recall of 122,000 motorcycles to fix a potential brake issue.
Affected motorcycles are the R1200GSA, R1200GS, R1200R, R1200RT, R1200ST and the K1200GT manufactured between August 2006 and May 2009.
For many owners this is the second recall to fix the same problem after a
similar recall in 2008.
The problem appears to be with the front brake lines that can spring a leak due to vibration. Obviously a leaky brake line can lead to brake failure and a potential accident, although a company spokesman said that no related accidents had been reported.
Interestingly, CMG experienced a similar problem with their R1200GS long term tester back in 2005 when a loosened banjo bolt caused brake fluid to leak and pressure to drop. However, this was before the stated recall dates and no information has been given as to exactly how the leak occurs.

Sorry. I’ve heard of this on GS models but I thought it was just from over exhuberant use or muddy/dirty conditions.
SUre but what about the leaking rear ends? So far I’ve had 4 replaced on my 2003 K1200GT. The last two at my expense. THese items are not cheap either $1200 CDN! The last fix lasted all of 1500kms! Talk about a Lemon of a design!
I’m not surprised. I saw this happen on a K100LT a couple of years ago; brake line just snapped at the caliper. Never seen it happen on another brand.
